Volunteering
Are you interested in becoming a Friend of Orchard?
As part of our volunteer scheme you would be joining a team of people from all walks of life who bring a wealth of skills, knowledge and individuality to enrich our residents' lives.
Companionship is essential in improving our residents' quality of life. A recent report from Help the Aged stated that: "relationships between staff, residents, family, friends and the wider community are the most important factor in determining the quality of life for residents." As a volunteer you would be making a real difference to our residents in their day to day lives.
There is no set volunteer role; instead we encourage you to choose an activity which appeals to you. This could include anything from art and craft, maintaining a video library or running a film club, to playing games, reading newspapers and books to residents or simply chatting over a cup of tea.
We have already established volunteer programs in over 15 care homes. At Leeming Bar for example, we have established allotments and now have more than 20 volunteers who will be working alongside our residents to maintain them. At Scarborough a member of the local orchestra plays her harp for the residents, whilst at Sutton three retired art teachers help the residents with creative projects.
If you would like to volunteer at any one of our care homes please complete the application form at the top of the page and send it to:
