A GROUP of budding young chefs from Yorkshire Coast College sent the taste buds soaring during a recent visit to Scarborough Lodge.
Catering students from the college served up a mouthwatering selection of tasty treats for the residents when they put on afternoon tea at the home on Mount View Avenue.
The students, who are studying for a Professional Chef's Diploma Level 2, showcased their dessert and cake making skills in a series of special demonstrations.
Residents were treated to culinary delights including traditional trifle, profiteroles with chocolate sauce, fresh cream and fruit gateaux and banana flan.
"It was delicious," said home manager Charlotte Thompson. "And the residents loved every minute of it. I don't think there was a scrap left!
"We are always looking at ways to get our residents taking part in different activities and were delighted when the college agreed to get involved.
As a result of the demonstration, the residents have been invited back to YCCs Lady Edith's Drive campus, where the students plan to serve them dinner in the college's Fledglings Restaurant.
17-year-old Evi Coates said: "It was great that we were able to get out into the community to practice our skills as an alternative to working in the college's kitchen.
"The residents were lovely and some even got involved helping us put the finishing touches to our desserts and cakes.
"We all really enjoyed the whole experience and we are looking forward to seeing them again soon."
